Khula Zonke

Pictured above is the Cultivate Horticulture Training centre and community hub in Newtown Wales. A wonderful example of what such a project vision can achieve.

Cultivate was developed in 2012-2015 as part of the Get-Growing project, funded by the National Lottery.

Khula Zonke; Farming for everybody, PDC design presentation.
This vision and design was the product of collaboration from Permaculture students from South Africa, UK, and Uganda as an outcome of a S39 Academy of Permaculture design course.

Khula Zonke is a training centre in Johannesburg, South Africa. It is municipally owned and ran as a non-organic farming lot previously and this is s reboot as it were. The plan is to bring the degraded land back to life with compost, mulch and organic processes. It can be a hub for food growing, training, self empowerment, enterprise and also a safe space for children to play and learn at the same time. There are problems of soil loss, water erosion and lack of clear vision. This brilliant design maps out clearly and methodically the possibilities and reasons of each design proposal.

Sector39 are based in Wales and teach permaculture design and coordinate permaculture education through the S39 Academy of Permaculture.
