Update from TAPA, Uganda

TAPA planning meeting

The TAPA and APAD groups discuss thier next priorities

Teso is a sub-region within Eastern Uganda. It is a hotter and dryer than the Busoga region where we first began teaching, and these are reflections after three years of work.

“In September 2020, S39 and EUPO, which stands for Eastern Uganda Permaculture, ran a PDC (Permaculture Design Course) at Kumi Happy Home in Kumi. This was during Covid-19 restrictions, and we had to restructure the course to minimize risks.

Most of the participants were drawn from the local area because of travel restrictions. The goal, supported by the Arkleton Trust that funded these stages of the project, was to create a regional hub where members might have a better chance to build momentum around permaculture initiatives. O

ne of the outcomes is the formation of local support groups centered on specific communities. More recently, we have been able to offer online training for the PDC. However, not all of the members were able to attend due to data costs, bandwidth issues, and access to technology. Those who were able to attend have spread the learning locally, but there was also a feeling of imbalance. Additional training and support are being called for, as tools, seeds, and workwear are required.”
